What Exactly Does a Dermal Therapist Do?

Have you heard the term “Dermal Therapist” or “Dermal Technician” lately and are wondering what this means and what exactly do they do?

Well, let us enlighten you!

A Dermal Technician is someone who works in the medi-aesthetics industry, which is considered an extension to Beauty Therapy. For example, Beauty Therapists traditionally perform services such as waxing, nails, tanning, massage and facials.

Services that are an extension of the Beauty industry would be classed as advanced skin and laser treatments, such as microdermabrasion, skin needling, chemical peels and laser therapies for hair removal, skin rejuvenation and vascular lesions.

These types of advanced treatments are traditionally performed by Dermal Therapists, who hold qualifications in cosmetic science, dermal therapies and skin anatomy. A Dermal Therapist is passionate about all things to do with skin!

Results from Dermal Therapy

If you’re concerned about your skin health, selecting a qualified Dermal Therapist could provide you with superior results. All treatments are tailored towards real, visible results and have the ability to treat some of the main skin concerns, such as:

– Acne and breakouts
– Pigmentation
– Scarring
– Ageing
– Dehydration

The way Dermal Therapists treat the skin differs to regular beauty therapy and facials. Treatments such as peels, skin needling, and microdermabrasion often accompany a range of active ingredients, machinery, and cosmeceuticals.

Whilst this might sound a little scary, you will be pleased to know that the beauty industry is quickly moving to more services like this, and you will be in safe and qualified hands.

Type of Training for Dermal Therapists

All Dermal Therapists will hold a minimum of a Diploma of Beauty Therapy and will have undertaken further study within the world of skin therapies.

At The Advanced Skills Academy, we offer courses for students who are ready to take their beauty career to the next level.

Our most popular pathway to taking that first step looks a little bit like this:

This will provide students with the fundamental anatomy of the skin, why skin conditions occur and ultimately how to treat them.

Enrol in our HLTINF005 Maintain Infection Prevention for Skin Penetration Treatments

This 100% online accredited course will provide students with the ability to control infectious diseases in the workplace, when undertaking popular dermal therapies treatments such as skin needling.

Enrol in our Advanced Skin Needling Course

This part theory and part practical course provides students with the skills and hands-on training to perform advanced skin needling techniques.

Enrol in our Advanced Chemicals Peels Course

This part theory and part practical provides students with the skills and hands-on training to perform advanced chemical peels techniques and cosmeceutical science.

There are many further options for study at TASA, however this is our most popular pathway to becoming a qualified Dermal Therapist.
